Ram Payali: A Historical and Religious Site of Balaghat

Located about 25 kilometers from Balaghat district, Ram Payali is a historical and religious site known for its ancient heritage and deep faith. This place is particularly famous for the Shri Ram Balaji Temple, which attracts millions of devotees and tourists.

Historical Significance of Shri Ram Balaji Temple

Ram Payali town is situated in the western direction and holds historical importance due to its connection with Lord Shri Ram’s exile. It is believed that Lord Shri Ram visited this town during his 14 years of exile. Since then, this place has been called ‘Ram Padavali,’ which later evolved into ‘Ram Payali.’

600-Year-Old Temple

According to local beliefs, the Shri Ram Temple was constructed about 600 years ago by the then Maratha Bhosale of Bhandara district. It was scientifically designed as a fort on the riverbank. The temple has special windows that allow the first rays of the rising sun to directly fall on the feet of Lord Shri Ram Balaji. This temple is mentioned in India’s ancient history and is considered a highly sacred site.

Divine Darshan of the Idols

The main sacred idols in the Shri Ram Temple are of Lord Balaji and Goddess Sita. Lord Ram’s idol is in a forest dweller form, adorned with matted locks on his head. Beside him, Goddess Sita’s idol appears in a frightened and withdrawn state. Lord Ram’s left hand is placed on Sita’s head as a gesture of protection, offering devotees a direct and divine darshan of Lord Ram and Sita.

Kartik Purnima Fair

Every year, a grand seven-day fair is organized at this temple on the full moon day of the Kartik month. On the night of the full moon, 15 lamps filled with pure ghee are lit in devotion to Lord Balaji. The fair takes place on the banks of the Chandan River and is attended by thousands of devotees from distant places.

The Mysterious Idol of Langde Hanuman Ji

According to mythological beliefs, the east-facing idol of Langde Hanuman Ji is unique and partially hidden, with one foot above the ground and the other buried underground. Years ago, an attempt was made to relocate the idol to the temple, and a pit over 50 feet deep was dug, but the other end of Hanuman Ji’s foot was never found. Later, Hanuman Ji appeared in a dream and instructed that the idol should remain on the riverbank, and if a temple were to be built, it should be constructed near the idol itself. It is believed that one foot of Hanuman Ji extends into Patal Lok (the netherworld). Hearing these miraculous stories fills devotees with immense faith and devotion.
